Under Pressure
This UW Giving Day, help change the story of hunger in Wyoming
Hunger wears many faces in Wyoming, from children to young adults, parents to grandparents, and every stage in between. Feeding America estimates that 1 in 7 people in Wyoming are food insecure, and that’s a statistic UW Extension’s Cent$ible Nutrition Program (CNP) is working to change, alongside Wyoming hunger relief partners. This UW Giving Day, help us change the story of food insecurity in Wyoming by supporting our Under Pressure project.
Under Pressure provides Wyomingites facing food insecurity with an Instant Pot. This Giving Day, we’re aiming to raise enough funds to purchase 75 Instant Pots, empowering families with the knowledge and tools to improve food security. The first two years of Under Pressure were supported with generous external funding. Now we’re striving for a sustainable source of funding to keep this project going.
The Story of Under Pressure
Instant Pots may seem like an odd solution for addressing food insecurity, but they provide an essential piece to the puzzle. This is because some of the most available and affordable food sources, like dry beans, are also some of the most difficult and time consuming to prepare. Wyoming food pantries that partner with CNP recognized that limited time, lack of cooking equipment, and perceptions of palatability were barriers to patrons choosing dried beans. Instant Pots can help overcome these barriers and since 2022, have been making a difference.
