CNP Meat Sauce with Lentils

Try our CNP Meat Sauce recipe with lentils instead of ground meat. It's important to vary your protein routine and lentils are an inexpensive way to try something new!


  • 1 teaspoon canola oil
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 3 Tablespoons tomato paste 
  • 1  8-ounce can tomato sauce
  • 2.5 cups water
  • 1 cup green lentils
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt 


  1. Wash hands with warm, soapy water for 20 seconds.
  2. Sauté onions, garlic, and oil in a pan for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add tomato paste, tomato sauce, water, lentils, and salt. 
  4. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer for about 40 minutes, stirring occasionally. 
  5. Cook until lentils are soft all the way through. Add more water for desired liquidity of sauce.
